ヴェネツィア：2010年10月10日―昨年の建築ビエンナーレにおいて意義深いデビューを果たしたマレーシアですが、このたび第54回ヴェネツァア・アート・ビエンナーレへの参加が明らかになりました。アート・ビエンナーレは2011年6月4日から11月24日まで開催され、ジャルディーニとアルセナーレ及び街の各所を会場とします。
2010年10月20日、ヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレ代表のパオロ・バラッタ氏と、第54回ヴェネツァア・アート・ビエンナーレのディレクターを務めるビーチェ・クーリガー氏が参加国代表と対面しました。マレーシア以外には、アンドラ、サウジアラビア、バーレーン、バングラデッシュ、ルワンダが初参加、またコンゴは1968年以来、インドは1980年以来の参加となります。
クーリガー氏が今回の展示会のテーマに選んだのは「ILLUMInations」―「グローバル化した世界の発展へ注意を促すこと」が課題です。歴史あるベニスの街に、マレーシアを含む様々な国のアーティストたちが「たぐい稀な対話の機会」に参加するため、一同に会します。
Venice: October 10, 2010-Following the meaningful debut in the International Architecture Biennale last year, Malaysia also will participate in the 54 International Art Exhibition in Venice, which will take place from June 4 to November 24, 2011 at the Giardini and at the Arsenale, as well as in various venues the city. On October 20th, 2010, the President of the Venice Biennale, Paolo Baratta, accompanied by the Director of the 54th International Art Exhibition, Bice Curiger, met representatives of the participating countries. Other first-time participants includes Govern d’Andorra, Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Bahrain, Bangladesh, Republic of Rwanda, as well as Congo and India, which last participated respectively in 1968 and 1980.The theme chosen by Bice Curiger for the exhibition is ILLUMInations. According to the director, the title represents a challenge “to draw attention to the development of the globalised world.” Artists from various nations including Malaysia will get together to join the “extraordinary opportunity for dialogue” in the historical city.
